How to use Datasketch Apps

In this tutorial we show you how to use Datasketch Apps to make your data visualizations and analysis.

What is Datasketch Apps?

Datasketch Apps is a series of tools specialized in creating impactful graphics and visualizations from your data. The data can be imported from spreadsheets, excel, csv or copied and pasted. To try out the apps you can also use the available sample data.

At Datasketch, our aim is for organizations and people to explore, communicate and visualize their data in a simple way that’s attractive for all audiences.

To achieve this, we have created apps which can generate a variety of different types of visualizations and graphics, some of them interactive, others static. All results can be downloaded and published in different formats.

Let us begin…

  1. Go to Datasketch (https://www.datasketch.co/)

  2. Click on the “Sign in” button on the top right.

  1. A login form will pop up for you to enter your username and password; if you don’t have your login details yet, click on “Sign up” or log in with Google.

  1. There you can register by choosing a username and password. You will then receive an email with a confirmation that your account has been created.

  2. At the top of your control panel, you will find an operations bar in which you will see a series of icons of the apps. We can start trying out some of the apps. Press the APPS button to start.

  3. In this window you will see a series of applications that will serve you for all your data processing or visualization needs such as creating graphs, making maps of different countries, viewing tables, or converting pdfs into csv. Choose the one you prefer.

  4. For this tutorial we will use the Simple charts application. We look for the Simple charts application and click on use.

Data upload

  1. The apps home screen will look like this:

  1. Click on Data Upload

  1. You can use the sample data that you will find by default as soon as you enter the application to try out the app. Or you can copy or paste your own data, upload a CSV or XLS file or import a spreadsheet from Google Sheets.

Edit uploaded data

  1. If you discovered any errors in your data while viewing or loading it, don’t worry! You still have time to correct errors and you can edit them from within the app. Go to the table displaying your data and edit the column or row where you found the error and double-click it to edit the cell.

If you find more than 10 errors in your database, we recommend that you go back to your original table and review it, so you can correct it comfortably and reload it without errors.

  1. Also in the Data Preview section you can determine the variables you want to use.

Customize options

  1. In the Visualization Design section you can customize chart titles, chart style, value labels, number processing, captions, and logos. This will adjust to the colors and other specifications you need.

You will immediately see the style changes you’ve made in the Visualization Preview panel. And in Visualization Type you can select the type of visualization that you want to use for your data.

Export results

  1. When you finish customizing your graph and visualizations and want to download or publish your results, click on the Download button. Here you can choose one of several options:
